The descriptive psychopathology has classically equated the language with the formal aspects of thought. Phenomenological, linguistic and psychoanalytic approaches, despite their epistemological differences, share the focus on communication and relational aspects of language function. The author offers a brief overview of the main methods of language study in the disciplines mentioned. He presents the findings and comments on some clinical implications in the context of psychotherapy for psychosis. Verbal language appears to be a dimension in which methods and purposes of different bio-medical and anthropological disciplines can converge.[:]
