In psychoanalysis interpretation is not only the search for meaning in narratives told by the patient, but it’s also an attempt to transform it. Narrative semiotic (Greimas 1970, 1983) analyzes the stories structure, the main characters and the dynamic of the events and, at a deeper level, the meaning transformation. All stories, in fact, describe a change of the subject, usually after a series of events and by overcoming some obstacles. A semiotic perspective, therefore, can help to describe the dynamics of a narrative. A therapist can change the meaning of a story by introducing a different point of view, a new system of values in the description of the events.
