The male figures in Paolo Sorrentino’s cinema seem to synthesize, and give shape to, some foundations of Heinz Kohut’s theoretical and clinical work, the origin of Psychoanalytic Self Psychology.
In this article, through an analysis of the history and personality of five characters, this connection is explored, highlighting how Sorrentino’s cinema expresses a useful path for understanding Self diseases and their possible destinies.
